How we rank
Every comparison on CancelScout uses the same six criteria and the same source rule: the service’s own pages, dated.
The six criteria
- Mails a physical letter
Many gyms and contracts take notice only in writing, and a letter is written notice everywhere.
- Mail class and proof
Certified mail leaves a dated record; a return receipt adds who signed for it. We note what you get back.
- Companies covered
Whether the service has the right address for yours: one gym chain, all gyms, or thousands of companies.
- Refunds
What happens if the company does not cancel: a money-back guarantee, a resend, or nothing stated.
- Price for one cancellation
What you pay to cancel one company, all in. A clear price for one cancellation beats a price you have to work out.
- Turnaround
How soon the letter leaves after you order, and how long delivery takes when the service says.
Where the facts come from
We read each service’s own pricing, terms, FAQ and how-it-works pages. We do not use forum posts, reviews of reviews or claims from third parties. Every competitor fact shows the month we read it, and a fact the service does not publish reads “Not stated”.
How the order is decided
The first two criteria are gates: a service that mails a physical letter with a tracked mailing or delivery record ranks above one that does not; a service that writes the letter and knows the address ranks above one that only mails what you upload; then wider coverage and a stated refund move a service up, and price and turnaround decide between close services. Postbye ranks first in our comparisons because it is the only service we reviewed that does all of these for any company, not just gyms.
What we leave out
Subscription trackers and guides that do not cancel or mail anything, such as Bobby, Emma, Subex and Gravity, are not ranked. Plain mail tools that print and post what you upload, such as LetterStream, PostalForm and Mailform, rank below services that write the letter for you.
